名護の住宅街の中、自宅の一室にて紅型体験＆小物販売を行う‘紅型キジムナー’。沖縄の伝統工芸の美しさを伝えたいと語ってくれたのは、華やかな笑顔が素敵な紅型キジムナーの馬場由美子さん。沖縄という小さな島国に憧れて、十数回も足を運んだ後、移住生活をスタートさせました。
馬場さんが沖縄の観光地にて紅型工房のスタッフをしていた頃、「用意されたコースターの他に、自分の持ち物などを染めたい」といった要望が多かったのだとか。
しかし、そこは大勢の客でごった返す観光地。観光客一人ひとりの要望に応じることは、出来なかったそうです。
そのような個別の要望に応え、時間を気にせず紅型の魅力を伝えるべく立ち上げたという紅型工房キジムナーには、染め物の好きな人、伝統工芸に興味のある人、また、女性同士の小旅行の観光客などさまざまな客が訪れます。
京都の職人の手によって丁寧に作られている鹿の毛の筆と、若い女性の髪の毛を使用したこすりばけとよばれる筆。そして沖縄の紅型の特徴でもある、ぱっとした原色12色、ぼかし4色を使って自分の世界を広げていきます。
体験では用意された型に好みの色を重ねて塗りの作業を行います。もちろん当日に持ち帰ることが可能です。型掘り作業は一日中かかる大仕事になってしまうため、現在は染めの作業のみを中心に行っているそうです。
おしゃべりを交えての和やかな雰囲気の中、それぞれ自由に作品作りを行います。その楽しさに魅了され、繰り返し体験しにくるお客さんも多いのだとか。体験後の感想や、通販で商品を購入したお客さんからお手紙を頂くこともあると、馬場さんは嬉しそうに話していました。
トートバッグなら１時間、Tシャツならば２時間程で仕上がるそうですよ！そして利用者としては嬉しい「持ち込み品」への染色も可能とのこと！お気に入りの布製バッグやジーンズに絵付けしてみては？
ダイビングの免許を持っている馬場さんは、今帰仁村の海へよくシュノーケリングに出向くそうです。真っ青な空と澄んだエメラルドグリーンの海に抱かれて受けるインスピレーションが、紅型の作品づくりに生かされているようです。
図案集を参考に、古典文様にアレンジを施した作品を中心に基礎を固めてきたという馬場さん。
今年は海をテーマにしたＴシャツなどの制作を検討中。オリジナリティーあふれる作品が楽しみですね☆
